Rush leads popular vote for Hall of Fame

Rush ahead of Deep Purple and Heart

Rush has been leading the popular vote for nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For the first time in the award's history, fans can vote for the fifteen shortlisted artists.

Rush leads in percentages, with 24.31%, just ahead of Deep Purple (17.11%) and Heart (12.44%). Other artists include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Public Enemy, and Kraftwerk.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson said that personally he doesn't care about the award, but is happy with the fans' action. The award is debated by many for including questionable musicians to the detriment of great icons in the history of rock. Rush, for example, has been nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame for over 10 years.

The public can vote until December 3rd, and the ceremony will take place on April 18th, 2013.
