Danny Peart , brother of Neil Peart , the late Rush , died on the night of last Thursday, the 13th. Danny passed away after battling a brain cancer called glioblastoma. Neil, who died just over 5 years ago, succumbed to the same disease that afflicted his brother.

Neil and Danny's sister, Nancy Peart Burkholder , made the announcement through a dedicated family group on Facebook . She used the news to open her heart about her late brother:

“On this somber Sunday, it is with great sadness that we share that last Thursday night we lost our third Peart man and second brother, Danny, after a year and a half battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Danny shared our incredible Peart traits, which all our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and a generous spirit. We will plant a tree in Lakeside Park next to our father’s tree and Neil’s pavilion. And there will be a new award starting this year at the golf tournament for ‘Sportsmanship,’ because that was truly him. It’s ironic that his golf team repeatedly came in second place!”

Life and career of Danny Peart

Danny Peart was born in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, Canada, and lived most of his life in Vancouver with his wife Janette Lindley and their two sons, Max and Nick Peart .

Passionate about writing, Danny became a member of the Canadian League of Poets and published several collections of poems such as Another Mountain To Climb (2017) and Stark Naked In A Laundromat , which features a preface written by Neil Peart.

Besides his talent for poetry, Danny also worked as a newspaper delivery boy for the Globe and Mail , a personal trainer, a manager of agricultural equipment parts, and a bartender.

His brother's admiration for Neil Peart

In 2023, during his appearance on the Something For Nothing: A RUSH Fancast , dedicated to fans of the Canadian band, Danny opened up about his admiration for his brother, who had died three years earlier (via Blabbermouth ):

“The cool thing about it is that he (Neil) will be remembered. He was the kind of artist who was so unique, so talented, so hardworking. So he will always be one of the top 10 greatest live drummers of all time. They will argue about his place (on the list), but you and I will be so happy because we saw Neil Peart play live. We saw him do solos that we had never seen anything like before. And so people will remember him, certainly as a rock drummer. And I hope he will be remembered as a writer. Almost all of his books are still available .”
