Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga was recruited as Hellyeah's drummer after Vinnie Paul's death.
Last month, Hellyeah Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga to play a tribute show to Vinnie Paul . He will likely be behind the drums on the tour for the new album Welcome Home .
In a new interview, Mayorga revealed what it was like to meet Vinnie Paul for the first time.
He said: “It was at Ozzfest 1998, at Milton Keynes Bowl. I was playing drums for Soulfly at the time. While I was playing, I turned to get a bottle of water. A few feet away from me was Vinnie with his arms crossed, smiling and saying 'Yeah!'”
“I was like, ‘Oh my God. It’s Vinnie.’ And next to him was Dave Grohl . So, yeah, no pressure,” he joked.
Mayorga added: “I met him later and we’ve been friends ever since. He was a really cool guy. His energy was great. As soon as I saw him behind me, I started playing better and harder.”
"He was definitely a big influence on me and every drummer I know. He's a huge influence on everyone in that sense," he added.
