Roy Khan left Kamelot in 2011.

Roy Khan , former vocalist of Kamelot , commented on his decision. He left the band in 2011 after taking several months off. In an interview with SpazioRock , Khan was asked what the hardest aspect of ending a long relationship with Kamelot was: “I prefer to ask: What wasn't hard? Leaving the other guys behind at the peak of our career sucked. Saying goodbye to all the attention and all the money sucked. Disappointed colleagues and fans all over the world sucked. Receiving hate messages from people who had no idea what they were talking about. Not being able to do what I love most. The list is practically endless… it's still the best decision I ever made.”

Kamelot announced Tommy Karevik as their new vocalist in June 2012. The Florida-based band has recorded three albums so far with the Swedish vocalist.

Asked if he had heard any recent material from the band with Karevik, Roy Khan said: “Yes, I have. I really like some of their new stuff. It sounds like classic Kamelot to my ears, and Tommy is a great singer.”

It was recently announced that Khan has reconnected with his former band, Conception , and that the group is working on a new EP. “I’ve been working as a teacher and in a church for the past few years… That’s fine, but I think it’s time to get back to what I do best: writing, composing, and of course, singing.”

“There wasn’t one special event that triggered [Conception’s return],” he added. “Tore and the other guys have all been good friends these past few years, and the Conception reunion slowly materialized as we talked about it.”
