Roy Khan is best known for his work with the power metal band Kamelot , which he was a member of until 2011.

Currently, he is the vocalist for Conception , a Norwegian prog/heavy metal band that will be coming to Brazil for the first time in June, with a show on the 9th at Carioca Club in São Paulo.

Besides Khan, the band also consists of Tore Østby (guitarist), Ingar Amlien (bassist) and Arve Heimdal (drummer) and will be touring Mexico on the 5th and Chile on the 7th.

In an exclusive interview with Wikimetal , the artist discussed the music industry, his collaboration with Avantasia in 2008, and more.

Check out the full interview:

Wikimetal: You recently played with Edu Falaschi here in Brazil and you two sounded incredible together. Are there any other Brazilian bands or artists you'd like to collaborate with?

Roy Khan: Thank you! The show with Edu was amazing! I'll consider any offers you get, but I don't have any specific artist in mind at the moment.

WM: You've been very connected to the Christian church for over a decade. Are you a consumer of white metal?

RK: Actually, no. I listen to some. Like the Norwegian band Extol . They're very good.

WM: Conception's last album is State Of Deception , released in 2020. Are you already planning your next project?

RK: We are all constantly working on new materials and side projects. However, there are no concrete plans for our next release.

WM: Before this album, Conception's last album was Flow , released in 1997. How do you think the music industry and the songwriting process have changed?

RK: Well… I’ve been there the whole time experiencing the change year after year, but the main difference between now and then is definitely the internet. Nowadays everyone can listen to all kinds of music, from anywhere in the world, at any time. Distribution and marketing have obviously changed a lot. Writing songs isn’t very different from what it always was, except that they’re no longer developed in the rehearsal room.

WM: You collaborated with Avantasia on the track "Twisted Mind" in 2008. What was that experience like?

RK: Coming off a long tour, I actually had some problems with my voice at that time and I struggled to get my parts the way I wanted them to sound, but the result came out okay, I believe.

WM: What can fans expect from this upcoming show here in Brazil? Maybe some surprises in the setlist?

RK: Conception must be experienced live! Let us convince you. See you in São Paulo on June 9th.
