Roy Khan will return to the stage on July 5th at Tokio Marine Hall in São Paulo for a special show celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album The Black Halo , an absolute classic by Kamelot . In an interview with the portal PowerOfMetal.cl , transcribed by Blabbermouth.net , the singer explained why he decided to celebrate this album now.

“It’s been two decades since the album came out. The Black Halo is, without a doubt, one of the most important works of my career. I felt this was the right time to do something special, and São Paulo seemed like the ideal place for it,” he stated.

Khan believes the album stood out because it emerged during a pivotal period for Kamelot. With a new contract, more creative freedom, and a unique combination among the members, the band was able to experiment more in the studio and create a work that remains relevant to this day.

“The lyrics touched something deep inside people, and the synergy between everyone in the band made the result greater than the sum of its parts. The album became a classic,” he added.

Current relationship with former colleagues

Roy revealed that he maintains regular contact with Thomas Youngblood , the band's founder, and also talks with Casey Grillo , former drummer of Kamelot. According to him, the ties remain strong even after his departure.

“I talk to Thomas from time to time, mainly about professional matters. I spoke to Casey recently when he was in Norway with Queensrÿche. We stay in touch.”

When asked about a possible future collaboration with Kamelot, Khan did not rule out the idea.

“We’ve already discussed this possibility. There’s a lot to be sorted out before that happens — schedules, logistics, costs, what each of us would do. Actually, Thomas and I are interested in doing something, as long as everything fits together.”

Life after Kamelot

Khan left the group in 2011 after a period of physical and mental exhaustion. He said that the intense touring schedule and unbalanced personal life had brought him to a breaking point. Today, at 55, he lives a more balanced life, with a strong spiritual and family connection.

In recent years, he reformed his former band Conception , released an EP and an album, and also participated in the new Avantasia , on which he sings the ballad " Here Be Dragons" . The collaboration earned praise from Tobias Sammet , who described it as one of the most exciting tracks of his career.

To complete the celebration, The Black Halo (20th Anniversary Edition) has just been re-released in a deluxe edition by Napalm Records, featuring an exclusive vinyl, commemorative box set, and other items for fans.
