The lead singer of Rotting Christ spoke about freedom of speech
Sakis Tolis , vocalist of the band Rotting Christ , which faced controversy because of its name, said that the world suffers from problems with freedom of expression. That many countries have repressed speech.
“In England, you have freedom of speech, but I think that’s not the case in other countries,” he said. “It’s very important to me – freedom of speech. People can’t express themselves; they have rules – different countries, different cultures, have rules. We metalheads should be heretics. We don’t go with the flow.”
Rotting Christ is one of the oldest black metal bands still active. “Rotting Christ is an offensive name to many people,” he acknowledged. “But I keep the name because I think all religions are rotting. There’s a lack of freedom. I have several ideas that came from religion, but I don’t like it when someone’s beliefs are exploited. There are thousands of people – millions – who are ready to kill because of someone’s beliefs.”
The new album , The Heretics, will be released on February 15th.
