guitarist Ronnie Wood stated in the documentary Somebody Up There Likes Me that beating lung cancer was like being released from prison.
Wood said he even said goodbye to loved ones before the surgery to try and remove the cancer in 2017, which ended up being a success, with the doctor telling the musician that his lungs were as if he had never touched a cigarette before, making Ronnie feel like he had been released from prison. In 2018, the guitarist announced he was cancer-free.
The legendary artist believed he contracted the disease due to smoking, stating that he smoked approximately 25-30 cigarettes a day for over 50 years.
To justify his recovery, Wood utters the phrase that became the documentary's title, "Someone up there likes me, and someone down here does too."
