Ronnie Wood , guitarist for the Rolling Stones , survived cancer on two occasions. Most recently, between 2019 and 2020, the musician kept the diagnosis a secret and only shared the information with the press when he received confirmation of his cure .
“In 2017, I had my first battle; that was lung cancer, which I overcame. And then, in 2019, I had small cell lung cancer, which was much worse and much more tortuous,” she told Rolling Stone . “I had to do chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but that wasn’t on the radar because of the COVID-19 . I had space to deal with it on my own terms, instead of it being a public thing.”
The discretion regarding Wood's health condition seems to have extended to those close to him, who questioned the decision when they learned of the battle fought in secret. "People tell me, 'You didn't tell me anything, I would have helped you.' And I reply, 'I didn't want to bother anyone, I just wanted to deal with it my way,'" he explained.
During this period, Ronnie Wood had the unconditional support of his wife. "Sally has been wonderful. So, I'm cured now and that's become news," he concluded.
