During his visit to Brazil, Roger Waters visited the Palácio do Planalto to meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva . Also present were the First Lady, Janja da Silva , and Paulo Miklos , from the band Titãs .
In a video posted on the president's official social media accounts , Lula thanks Waters for his "gestures of solidarity" and his "stance against the denialism that has taken over this country," while the musician greets him, saying, "It's great to see you, brother."
During his tour of Brazil in 2018, the singer, songwriter, and founder of Pink Floyd spoke out openly against Jair Bolsonaro – at the time, a presidential candidate. In another post, Lula also recalled that, on that occasion, Roger Waters tried to visit him in prison in Curitiba, but "was prevented."
Waters is in Brazil with his farewell tour , This Is Not A Drill . The first of six shows takes place in Brasília, this Tuesday, the 24th. The musician will also perform in five other Brazilian cities: Rio de Janeiro (October 28th), Porto Alegre (November 1st), Curitiba (November 4th), Belo Horizonte (November 8th), and São Paulo (November 11th).
