Despite some differing messages from the previous day, Waters' second show remained political.
Roger Waters Us + Them tour in Brazil last Tuesday , the 9th, at Allianz Parque, where he divided the audience by expressing his opinion on the current political situation in Brazil – something he usually does in every country he visits. His speech remained political on his second night in São Paulo on Wednesday, the 10th.
The singer protested against Jair Bolsonaro, the presidential candidate for the PSL party, calling him a neo-fascist. Among the various phrases displayed on the screen on his stage, Waters showed a list of names of politicians, including US President Donald Trump and lawyer Marine Le Pan, a defeated candidate in the last French elections.
On Tuesday, the Pink Floyd showed Bolsonaro's name on the list, but the following day, the screen displayed a banner with the phrase "political viewpoint censored" in Portuguese. The banner disappeared for a second, being replaced by Bolsonaro's name. The chant "not him" appeared loudly, despite being reprimanded by many who were there.
Waters' protest didn't stop there. The singer took his usual 20-minute break during his performances, and while he was gone, messages calling for resistance appeared on the screen, including the word "resist." "Resist the garbage dumped in the oceans," "resist neo-fascism," and "resist those who profit from wars" were some of the phrases that appeared.
Despite maintaining his anti-Bolsonaro rhetoric throughout the show, Waters did not repeat some of the actions he had taken on Tuesday. During the song "Pigs (Three Different Ones)," an inflatable pig roamed the stadium with the phrase "stay human," while the previous day it carried the messages "don't blame the children" and "respect women."
At the end of the show, during the performance of "Mother," the screen displayed the phrase "no fucking way."
