Roger Waters is preparing to release The Dark Side of the Moon Redux on October 6th. The project is an ambitious reinterpretation of one of the most famous and acclaimed albums in history.
Last Thursday, the 21st, the musician released new versions of “Speak To Me” and “Breath”. The opening of the first song begins with Waters narrating the lyrics of “Free Four”, a song from Pink Floyd 's 1972 Obscured By Clouds , leading up to the sung part of the next track. Waters had already released the new version of “Time”.
The musician re-recorded the entire 1973 album solo, without any of his former bandmates. He was joined by Gus Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, Via Mardot, Azniv Korkejian, Gabe Noel, Jon Carin, and Robert Walter.
According to Waters, the idea of re-recording the classic album came about when he was working on songs for the 2022 Lockdown Sessions The Dark Side of the Moon might very well be a suitable candidate for a similar reworking, partly as a tribute to the original work, but also to revisit the political and emotional message of the entire album.
In February of this year, he justified his decision to re-record all the songs: “I wrote Dark Side of the Moon ,” he declared to The Daily Telegraph . “Let’s end this ‘we’ nonsense! Of course we were a band, there were four of us, we all contributed – but it’s my project and I wrote it.”
