Roger Waters releases new version of Pink Floyd's "The Gunner's Dream"

The track was originally released on Pink Floyd's album 'The Final Cut', Roger Waters' last with the band

Roger Waters shared a new recording of “The Gunner’s Dream” along with a black and white video of him in the studio. The track was originally released on Pink Floyd The Final Cut (1983) , the band’s last album with Waters.

Lyrically, "The Gunner's Dream" imagines a post-war life in which the world is free from tyranny, terrorism, and cruelty. The new version arrives a few weeks after the invasion of the Capitol in the US and two days before Joe Biden takes office as president of the country – which will happen this Wednesday, the 20th.

According to a statement by Waters, he chose to revisit the song after watching the 2013 The Man Who Saved The World Stanislav Petrov , a former Soviet colonel who helped prevent a nuclear war in 1983 when he received a false alarm that the US was sending missiles to the country. He convinced his superiors that it was a false alarm before they proceeded with the counter-attack plan.
