Roger Waters , like many of us, has been in quarantine for quite some time and has been using music to keep himself occupied. Recently, the musician released a video singing two rarities from The Wall , the classic Pink Floyd album.
“Vera” and “Bring the Boys Back Home” have been given new versions with Waters and his musicians in quarantine, respecting social distancing. In the video, he presents the reinterpretations in a more intimate way with the help of the band Lucius on backing vocals.
The second track featured an adaptation aimed at US President Donald Trump . The song's title translates to "Bring the Boys Back Home," and, looking at the camera, Roger said, "Bring the boys back home, particularly from Portland, you fucking hardhead," referring to the US federal intervention that has been occurring in the protests in the Oregon city.
In a statement released to the press, he took the opportunity to explain a little about the history behind the songs: “The 'Vera' in question is Vera Lynn. She was an English singer-songwriter, very popular during the Second World War. Her biggest hit was 'We'll Meet Again'. She was very well known as the 'Sweetheart of the Forces'. Our Vera, who is very fondly remembered in the United Kingdom, died six weeks ago at the age of 103. So she had a very lucky period, may she be blessed.”
Regarding “Bring the Boys Back Home,” he said: “My father never came home, but at least in 1944 he was actually fighting to defend his home. It’s not like now. Now the boys fight and die in colonial wars so some rich fool can get richer. If it were up to me, I’d bring them all home tomorrow.”
