Roger Waters ' new shows , famous for their political themes, are now featuring a tribute to the late Marielle Franco , who was murdered in 2018 along with her driver Anderson Gomes .
This Is Not a Drill tour displays the Brazilian woman's name on a huge screen during the performance, along with those of other human rights defenders. There, Roger also highlights the location of the incident (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), her "crime" (criticizing the police), and her "punishment" (death). You can see a recording of this moment at the end of the article.
The tribute was noted by PSOL Carioca, the party to which Marielle belonged, and a post was made to thank Waters for the remembrance (via Igor Miranda ): “MARIELLE IS A GIANT! Our beloved Marielle Franco is being remembered on Roger Waters' new US tour. Mari's name appears in projections during the show, along with other human rights defenders. Thank you, Roger Waters!”
With his new tour, This Is Not a Drill , which doesn't yet have a date set for Brazil, Waters has been delivering powerful messages on topics such as police violence, abortion, and transphobia.
