According to information obtained by F5 , the lawyer and vice-president of the Israelite Confederation in Brazil (CONIB), Ary Bergher , filed a lawsuit to Roger Waters from entering Brazil and performing the shows of his farewell tour, This Is Not A Drill .
The motivation is believed to be the recent controversy surrounding a Nazi-style uniform worn by Rogers during his show . The act is part of a theatrical performance the musician has staged in his concerts for decades as a form of social commentary.
Should Waters' shows in Brazil proceed, Ary Bergher requests that the artist's performances be monitored by the Federal and Civil Police. "I filed the request as a citizen, a Brazilian, and a Jew," Bergher stated, according to F5 . "He is a Nazi who must be contained and arrested."
Shortly after being investigated by German police for wearing a Nazi-style uniform, Roger Waters denied being anti-Semitic and explained the elements used in his performance in a statement :
“The elements of my performance that have been questioned are clearly a statement against fascism, injustice, and prejudice in all its forms. Attempts to portray these elements as something else are hypocritical and politically motivated.”
The request filed by lawyer Ary Bergher was addressed to the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino , on May 29th. To date, Roger Waters has shows scheduled in Brasília, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.
