During a recent interview with the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail , Roger Waters expressed his annoyance at not receiving as much attention as singers Drake and The Weeknd , stating that he is "much more important" than either of them.
While answering the journalist's questions, Waters raised a point, saying he found it "interesting" that no Toronto newspaper had sent representatives to cover at least one of his two shows in the city. The reporter then replied that the musician's performance wasn't the biggest attraction of the night, and that the city was going to host R&B singer The Weeknd at the Rogers Centre – an event for which he had been assigned.
“But The Weeknd canceled, and I performed two nights. I have no idea who The Weeknd is because I don’t listen to much music. I’ve been told he’s a big name. Well, good luck to him. I have nothing against him. Wouldn’t it be possible to write about his show one night and mine the other?” Waters questioned again.
The reporter explained that The Globe wasn't covering as many shows anymore, but that the newspaper had requested an interview with Roger Waters, which is why they were talking at that moment. Waters thanked him and added:
“I’m not trying to make a personal attack. I’m just saying it seemed strange to me. And, by the way, with all due respect to The Weeknd or Drake or any of them, I am much, much, much more important than any of them will ever be, no matter how many billions of streams they have. There are things happening here that are fundamentally important to all of our lives.”
The musician continued the rest of the interview talking about his live shows and the pro-Palestine event he will be participating in.
Recently, Roger Waters made headlines for sending a message to fans who attend his shows and disagree with his political views. The musician, who has been politically active since his time with Pink Floyd , displayed a message on the screen before his performance asking these people to "go to the bar" if they didn't want to see political demonstrations during the show.
