Can rock fans listen to funk? Influencer goes viral defending the idea; watch

"There's no selection process to get into the rock 'n' roll club," said Mike Sant'Anna

Does a headbanger become less of a rocker if they listen to other musical styles? What if that style is funk? This is a heated debate among fans of heavier music, and there are quite a few who consider themselves "purists" because they don't listen to anything outside the subgenres of rock and metal.

Brazilian influencer Mike Sant'Anna , who creates content about geek culture, went viral on TikTok after responding to a video criticizing rock fans who listen to funk music with a line from Pitty : "System malfunction, someone reconfigured me," the original video about the supposed fake rock fans ironically stated, and it has already surpassed 180,000 views on the platform.

In his response, Mike proposed a reflection instead of a fight, as transcribed by Wikimetal . “This video isn’t an attack, I swear. In fact, it might even be advice for the person who made the video. I’ve been through that phase (…) where only the sacred art of rock matters and anyone who considers themselves a rocker can never listen to funk or pagode or samba,” he began.

For the influencer, who is also a rock fan, maturity has brought a new perspective on the subject. “Man, if you want to listen to funk, if you want to listen to pagode, you listen to it. We're having a barbecue, from the bottom of our hearts, barbecue, rooftop, beer, sun, it doesn't fit to put on Metallica , Slipknot … Put on Arlindo Cruz , Jorge Aragão , it fits much better,” he continued. “'Let's go to Carnival?' Carnival is fun, it's a great energy, let's have fun!”

And how do you know if someone is really a rocker? “If someone says they’re a rocker and listens to funk… They’re a rocker! Why? Because they said they are! There’s no selection process to join the rocker club,” he continued in the video, which has already surpassed 125,000 views on TikTok.
