The longing for festivals is great after more than a year of pandemic, but the new project by businessman Roberto Medina promises a future full of possibilities for music fans. The creator of Rock In Rio announced this Friday, the 16th, a mega-festival in São Paulo.
Called The Town , the event will have its first edition in September 2023 at the Interlagos racetrack, the same venue where Lollapalooza is held annually. According to Estadão , there will be five days of shows divided into three weekends, with three Saturdays and two Sundays of attractions. The lineup will be announced in September 2022, when the next edition of the Rio de Janeiro festival .
With the monuments of São Paulo as the main inspiration for the set design, the event will be divided into six spaces. Musical styles are expected to vary in each area of the festival, but rock and metal seem guaranteed among the four headliners.
Commenting on the inevitable repetition of headliners, as is common at Rock in Rio , the businessman explained the importance of seeking out "more expressive" bands in the current scene. "In metal, for example, there aren't many bands capable of attracting an audience of 100,000 people. But it's a loyal audience: if you schedule Iron Maiden once a month, it will always be packed," he pointed out.
