The next Rock in Rio has its dates confirmed. Once again held in September, the 2024 edition of the mega-festival in Rio de Janeiro will last seven days and celebrates the event's 40th anniversary, which began in 1985.

The news was revealed by Roberto Medina , creator and CEO of the festival, during a press conference held at the Interlagos racetrack this Sunday, the 10th, in which the organization also confirmed a new edition of The Town in 2025.

The next edition of Rock In Rio was already announced for 2024 since September of last year, when the festival finally resumed activities after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the event takes place in even-numbered years, just like Rock In Rio Lisboa , scheduled for June of next year.

So mark your calendars: the confirmed dates for Rock In Rio 2024 are September 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22. As usual, the festival takes place in the so-called City of Rock, located in the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

“The world is so divided, and being able to produce what the audience did here in São Paulo has an invaluable worth. When I started doing Rock in Rio, I realized that the audience was more important than the artist. It was important to have the family, the moments of everyone being together. We will return [with The Town] in two years, stronger,” said Medina at the press conference this Sunday, the 10th (via G1 ).

Rock and metal at Rock In Rio

Despite some controversy surrounding the level of emphasis placed on heavy metal music at Rock in Rio , the festival traditionally dedicates two days of its program to rockers and headbangers, known as Metal Day and Rock Day.

In 2022, Sepultura, Black Pantera, Living Colour, Gojira, Dream Theater , and Iron Maiden were some of the highlights of the first day of the event, on September 2nd, while rock was represented by Offspring, Green Day, Maneskin , and Guns N' Roses Wikimetal 's coverage here .
