It's not news that rock and metal aren't the most played genres on Brazilian radio. Even so, these styles remain very much alive and are constantly evolving. But what has changed, after all? This is the paradox that metal, for example, is experiencing, and which may not yet be so noticeable to some people.

In this new era, it's inevitable that some bands will seek influences from classic styles, but the constant search for something different makes it difficult to label a song by a specific genre.

Edu Falaschi 's album Vera Cruz , released last year, has so many rich elements of Brazilian music, symphonic music, and other metal subgenres that it's difficult to label his album simply as power metal.

Another intriguing album, also released in 2021, titled The Outside , by the project pdat84 , blends space elements with post-metal without losing its authenticity, in an instrumental journey.

These findings only prove that metal is more alive than ever and that, if it's already becoming difficult to label the new bands emerging today, imagine what it will be like in the coming years.

On the other hand, we have the paradox of new bands that have chosen to revive the defining styles of the past, and which divide opinions, such as Greta Van Fleet, which presents a beautiful hard rock inspired by the 70s, and is often compared to Led Zeppelin . This, in fact, is an excellent example of a temporal paradox because, despite its sound being inspired by a style of the time, the public is often divided between listening only to traditional classic rock bands and, on the other hand, those who are more open to discovering something new, even when the band intends to present an old-school sound.

I believe everyone will agree on one thing: rock and heavy metal fans are very diverse. My conclusion is that the important thing is not to get too caught up in labels, not to be too closed off to the past, and above all, to know how to enjoy the good discoveries.
