Robert Plant , legendary vocalist of Led Zeppelin Rolling Stone magazine last Tuesday, the 13th, stating that he is facing difficulties in composing new music.

Asked what he's been doing since finishing his last tour in July 2023, the singer said ( via Rolling Stone ): “I have a group of friends that we play together from time to time. I've also been revisiting all that stuff I never released and never finished. And getting excited about it. Like, 'Wow. What am I going to do with this?' It's the idioms, the revisiting, the places I've been musically that weren't complete, it's just incomprehensible and a little overwhelming.”

He continues: “I have a Tascam digital recorder, I sing and put the vocals into a guitar pedal and record there, and it sounds great. Why bother going to the studio? But I can’t find the words. This is a very difficult time to try to be lyrical out there.”

When asked about his thoughts on retirement and continuing to tour, the 75-year-old British singer added: “The camaraderie, the things you share up there, the frailties you know you carry silently with you, the exposure of yourself to yourself, is something I would hate to say goodbye to. I can’t just sit there. Out there in the real world, people say to me, ‘What about the book?’ And I say, ‘Are you kidding? What? This is spectacular. Why think twice?’ This is today. What happened in Schenectady, NY in 1969 is another story.”

“Today, I was picking up all my lyric books and thinking, ‘I have to get back into the rhythm. I have something to say.’ So, yes, I’ll keep going – as long as they have effects machines that make me sound good. Well, it worked for Elvis Presley ! Listen to the compression of his voice on some of those great ballads from 1957.”

Robert Plant's last solo LP was Carry Fire , released in October 2017. In November 2021, he reunited with Alison Krauss on the covers album, Raise the Roof .
