Robert 'Bob' James , former lead singer of Montrose, died at age 68 after suffering complications from an ulcer. The news was revealed by producer and songwriter Dino Maddalone on his Facebook page.
"Shocked and very sad that my longtime friend Bob James has passed away," he wrote. The singer's birthdate is unknown, but according to the photo Dino posted, he was born in 1952, revealing that he died at the age of 68 or 69.
James, born in Ohio, moved to Los Angeles in 1963, where he became very well known in the local scene. He joined the group Montrose after the departure of Sammy Hagar, who had been with the group for the first two albums, leaving in 1975.
James' time with Montrose was short, but a success. He sang with the group on Warner Bros. Presents… Montrose , from 1975, and Jump On It , from 1976. With them, he toured with big names in rock such as The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Rush, Journey and Kiss.
After leaving Montrose, James remained active creating and performing with members of Cheap Trick, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, and Humble Pie.
Rest in peace, Robert 'Bob' James.
