Robb Flynn discussed the evolution of metal by comparing the current state of the genre to his experience in the early years of Machine Head and to the annual Grammy Awards.

In an interview with Full Metal Jackie, the Machine Head vocalist expressed his frustration with the industry's lack of care for the metal scene [transcription via Loudwire ]: “There’s so much talent in metal these days, and it’s really not appreciated by the music industry… I’m talking about respect. We’re not in that building.”

Robb Flynn also commented on his Grammy experience, recounting attending the awards ceremony and seeing the Best Metal Performance presented in a separate building and streamed exclusively on the Grammy website:

“I went in there and thought, ‘Wow, we’re in this [other building]. It’s not even close to the main area. Like, they don’t broadcast on TV, only on the internet.’ And I was offended, man. I was really insulted. That kind of stuck in my head. All of this went through my head while I was watching all these incredible bands a few months ago, and I think about it all the time. It’s not about winning, but about deserving this respect and recognition.”

Oakland-based groove metal band Machine Head released their eleventh studio album, Unatoned , last Friday, the 25th, via Nuclear Blast/Imperium Recordings .
