Machine Head , one of the biggest names in metal from the North American Bay Area, is coming to Brazil to perform in Curitiba (October 27th), Rio de Janeiro (October 28th), and São Paulo (October 29th). To promote the shows, vocalist Robb Flynn gave a press conference to several media outlets in Latin America to talk about the shows and more.

The band is coming to the continent with the tour for the album Of Kingdom and Crown (2022), a concept album in their ten-album discography. Wikimetal asked the musician about the inspirations for the concept album, given that there are several in the world of rock and metal.

“I think the first concept album I ever listened to was Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [1967, by The Beatles ]. Yeah, I remember the first time I listened to it I was confused. I was like, 'What is this?' You know, it had a collage of sounds. Crazy stuff.”

“[Also] Operation Mindcrime by Queensrÿche , The Wall by Pink Floyd , Black Parade by My Chemical Romance . These are classics and timeless, as well as conceptual. The inspiration [for this album] was definitely [The] Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.”

When mentioning the emo band, Flynn recounts that during the pandemic, when the group had to stop touring, he and his wife would have date nights and listen to The Black Parade (2006). "We'd sit in the garage and drink," he recalled.

“I already knew the lyrics to the songs, but one day we were really drunk and she started going over all the lyrics of the album in detail for me. I hadn't even noticed all those details of the story. And then I thought, 'You know what? I'm going to try to do something similar.'”

Inspired by such a distinctive album, Wikimetal also asked Robb Flynn about something personal he incorporated into the album that he's proud of. “The melodies, I think. Jared [ MacEachern , bassist] and I took things to another level. The vocal harmonies really pushed us out of our comfort zone.”

Robb then goes on to explain how some of the tracks feature his cleaner, crisper vocals, something he had never experimented with before. He also reiterates the idea of the album having a story that weaves the entire tracks together and says that the creative process was quite different.

During the press conference, the musician also spoke extensively about coming to Brazil. He mentioned how excited he is to visit different places like Rio de Janeiro and revisit cities like São Paulo, which he has already been to twice before. The news doesn't stop there. The band is coming to Latin America and will visit Venezuela for the first time. "I'm very excited to get to know the country. Many people were against our trip there, but our fans are waiting for us."
