Vegetarianism and veganism are becoming increasingly common terms and practices due to their growing popularity. In the world of rock and metal, this is no different, with none other than Rob Zombie as one of its biggest advocates.

In an interview with GQ , the artist stated that since childhood we have been brainwashed into thinking that eating meat is acceptable; however, when he watched a documentary that showed the truth about meat production, he decided, at age 18, to become a vegetarian.

Nine years ago, he switched to a vegan diet, meaning Zombie could no longer eat anything containing animal products. “It was a challenge. Being vegetarian is easier because you can still eat scrambled eggs or pizza. Once I became vegan, it was like… now there’s nothing to eat,” Zombie reveals. “Every day it gets easier, and every day the food gets better. Vegetarian burgers used to be like tasteless hockey pucks, and now they’re so delicious.”

“It’s a transition,” he continues. “Your tastes change and what you consider healthy changes. But it’s a process, and if someone tries to go to the hardest level instantly, they might fail. It’s like you’ve never worked out before and you think, ‘I’m going to work out for three hours every day!’ Why don’t we start with two? See if you can survive it. Take it easy, my friend.”

“A lot of punk rock was about fighting the system, fighting the norms, fighting the path that was laid out for you by corporate America, telling you how you should think and how you should be,” he states. “Veganism is… anti-system [but] it’s becoming more and more of a system thing, every day a new chain like McDonald’s or Burger King starts putting a sandwich on their menu, because they can see that the meat industry has an unsustainable future.”

Zombie recently released the unreleased track “The Eternal Struggles of the Howling Man,” the second single from the artist's new album, The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy , which arrives on March 12th.
