Acclaimed actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner , were found dead last Sunday, the 14th, at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, in a case that authorities are classifying as a homicide under investigation.
According to CNN , the discoveries occurred after the fire department responded to a medical emergency call around 3:30 p.m., when the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found inside the house.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) assigned the Robbery and Homicide Division to conduct the on-site investigation, without initially releasing official identities. Public records later confirmed the property belonged to the director and his wife, who had been married since 1989 and had three children. Reiner's family subsequently confirmed the deaths with "deep sadness."
Initially, People magazine reported that the main suspect was the couple's own son, Nick Reiner . The young man has a history of drug addiction and was taken to the police station for questioning. On Tuesday afternoon, the 15th, the international press reported Nick's arrest, but authorities have not yet released the official cause of death and the case remains ongoing, with an active investigation underway.
The 78-year-old director is known for works such as When Harry Met Sally… , Stand by M , and the iconic This Is Spinal Tap , a mockumentary that satirizes the world of rock bands, following the disastrous tour of a fictional heavy metal group, Spinal Tap . With its sharp, improvised humor, the film became a cult classic by exposing the excesses, egos, and absurdities of the music industry. He also had supporting roles in Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), The First Wives Club (1996), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
