Rob Halford: "I won't be happy until there is equality."

The musician discussed the fight for equality in the current scenario

Rob Halford, vocalist of Judas Priest, spoke to Noisey about the constant struggle for equality, saying that he will only be happy when he “sees equality everywhere”.

Halford confirmed that we are still a long way from achieving rights for the LGBTQ community and, after coming out during an interview on MTV News in 1998, the musician reveals that he is still fighting for inclusion and representation in the world of Metal.

“The battle continues forever, for me, as a gay man ,” he said, “I will not be happy until there is equality. This is vital. I don’t think it’s right to have one set of rules for one individual and another set of rules and laws for another individual. That’s not how the world should work.”

Despite this, the vocalist admits that the world has been in worse situations, "In recent decades I've seen a lot change, like gay marriage – which is incredible – even the horrible crimes that happen. We lose people every day in very violent ways."

“You need to be able to talk about whatever you want,” he adds, “to overcome hate speech and shouting matches. It’s about leading people and teaching them a new perspective.”

Judas Priest recently released Firepower , their eighteenth studio album, and you can listen to it in its entirety by clicking here.
