Judas Priest has released a new version of the classic Black Sabbath featuring vocals by Ozzy Osbourne , who passed away on July 22nd . The track was recorded days before Ozzy's retirement from the stage, when the musician participated in Black Sabbath 's farewell show , which took place on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
In a recent interview with Billboard , Rob Halford said that Ozzy Osbourne gave his approval to the
cover version:
“The absolute thrill for all of us is that he, with Sharon [ Osbourne , Ozzy's wife and manager], heard the final version, finished the mixing, and was smiling. He was smiling and very happy. Sharon sent a note revealing all this, saying she was absolutely thrilled and delighted that we were doing something musically together in such a special way. So, for him to do that and, two weeks later, go where he went was simply unbelievable.”
Regarding the release of the single, the Judas Priest vocalist commented:
"It was very beautiful, but very moving for us to come together for the first time in the history of both bands on a song that is loved by millions of metalheads around the world. Bringing these two bands, Priest and Sabbath, together in this format is simply sensational.".
All profits earned in the United Kingdom by the labels Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd and Epic Records , from audio streaming, downloads, and physical sales of the recording, will be donated to The Glenn Tipton Parkinson's Foundation and Cure Parkinson’s .
