Rob Halford: Metal will never die

The Judas Priest vocalist spoke in an interview with Metal Hammer magazine

Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford said the current scene is in good hands and insists the genre won't disappear anytime soon.

When asked if a band that starts in 2018 has a chance of making the same impact as Judas Priest, Halford said:

“It depends on what you understand as success. How do you define it? Is success a platinum album? Is it filling Madison Square Garden (famous concert venue in the United States)? Popularity, records sold? I don't know, but for me that doesn't matter. Metal will always be there. There will always be a new band. There's probably a band in England that I don't even know, or in Germany, Japan, or South America. That's the thrill.”.

Asked if the Metal scene is currently in a good place, Halford added: “Definitely. There’s always a new generation out there. But the cool thing, looking at it over the decades, is that people always return to the source, to the roots of Heavy Metal, to Black Sabbath, to Judas Priest.”
