Ronnie James Dio 's 78th birthday , artists such as Rob Halford , Dave Grohl , Geezer Butler , Jack Black , and others joined together in a video to honor the legendary vocalist. The video was made in partnership with the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund , which raises proceeds for cancer research.
The video compiles various comments about Dio made by artists on red carpets, but also includes previously unreleased footage made for the tribute, such as the messages from Halford and Butler.
“We connect all the time with Ronnie’s incredible music and voice,” says the Metal God . “He was and always will be my friend, my mentor, my hero.”
Butler, in turn, says that Dio was "the best metal singer of all time," and that his love for his fans was greater than anyone he had ever known.
Dave Grohl recalls watching Dio perform as a child and being so inspired that he wanted to become an artist. Jack Black agrees with Butler's title given to Dio, reaffirming that the vocalist was "the best heavy metal singer of all time," and also highlighting his kindness and humility.
