Rob Halford names Ronnie James Dio as his 'God of Rock'.

"That voice had so much power and so much character and so much energy and so much of everything that makes a great singer," Rob says about Dio.

Nothing compares to seeing music legends admiring each other, but seeing true Gods praising themselves is thrilling. And that's exactly what the Metal God , Rob Halford , did when he celebrated his own "God of Rock."

While participating in the BBC program The Rock Show With Johnnie Walker during the Rock God ( click here to listen to the full episode ), he didn't hold back in justifying his choice of none other than Ronnie James Dio as his greatest influence and Rock God .

“I don’t remember exactly when I first heard Ronnie’s voice, but I know that the first time I heard it, it was like an electric shock, a lightning bolt, because that voice had so much power and so much character and so much energy and so much of everything that makes a great singer,” Rob states. “So, from that moment on, I was a huge fan of Ronnie James Dio. And I followed his career from when he became known in the world of rock and roll. The great things he did with Elf , and then, of course, with Rainbow and Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell . What a great legacy Ronnie left. It’s all about the voice.”

“Even now, I always put on some Ronnie before going on stage, because he energizes me, he gives me the essence of what a great vocalist's performance should be. I simply love listening to the man. Not just his voice, of course, but also his great work in helping other people,” and finally admits: “If ever a man was a God of Rock, for me, it will always be Ronnie James Dio.”
