The band Rival Sons , twice nominated for a GRAMMY, releases this Friday the new single “Mercy” – already available on all streaming platforms .
The track anticipates the imminent arrival of the highly anticipated new album, LIGHTBRINGER , on October 20th. This will be the group's second full-length album to be released in 2023, and complements DARKFIGHTER , an album released in June and acclaimed by critics. The physical CD is available for purchase at the Wikimetal .
A highlight of the album, “Mercy” showcases the group's unique talent when it comes to dynamics, with howling and agitated vocals accompanied by a heavy guitar riff. Lyrically, it confronts the pain passed down from one generation to another.
Regarding the new album, LIGHTBRINGER , guitarist Scott Holiday comments: “When you make two consecutive albums like this, there are a lot of things to think about. The first album has to have enough impact and tell enough of a story so that the second half has an even bigger impact. We balanced each one with energy and meaning, but the album that came after was always going to need to deliver a bigger blow. I think LIGHTBRINGER provides that.”
Vocalist Jay Buchanan adds: “ DARKFIGHTER is a new Rival Sons, and LIGHTBRINGER is the clear definition of who we are now. We had new approaches in DARKFIGHTER , but LIGHTBRINGER is a step beyond innovation and personal exploration. It goes a little further.”
