Rita Lee will be honored for her lifetime achievement at the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards, which take place this Thursday, the 17th. In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil , the singer and songwriter spoke about the title of 'Queen of Brazilian Rock'.

In the conversation, the artist was asked about the aura of "patron saint of freedom" that she acquired through her history of resistance against the dictatorship, a period during which she was imprisoned by the regime. This period of struggle was extensively represented in the exhibition about Rita Lee's life at the Museum of Image and Sound .

“I prefer being called the 'patron saint of freedom' rather than the 'queen of rock,' which I find a bit corny… The exhibition was beautiful, the work of three beloved children. Guilherme Samora , my editor and journalist, was the artistic director; Chico Spinosa , my favorite carnival designer, was the set designer; and Juca , my middle son, was the curator. They unearthed my trunk of stage costumes, instruments, and curiosities of mine. There was a space for anyone who wanted to write me a little note, and I'm still reading them today, from so many letters I received. I'm impressed by the children, who treat me like Grandma Rita: they know my songs, they draw me, they send love letters… and I'm just completely charmed,” she said.
