Rita Lee was one of the most illustrious and remarkable people from São Paulo of all time. After the singer and songwriter passed away last Monday, the 8th, fans unearthed a fragment of a conversation in which the artist revealed her wish to have a square named after her after she leaves this world.
In 2006, during an interview on the program "Irritando Fernanda Young ," hosted by the writer and broadcast on GNT , Rita Lee asked a question about possible tributes after her death: "Do you think that when I die, I'll become a street name? A little square…," she questioned.
When Fernanda said, "Oh, I hope not, right?", the singer showed interest in this type of posthumous honor. "Oh, I want it. A little square," she said at the time, to which the presenter and friend promised to organize if she were still alive. Fernanda Young died on August 25, 2019, at the age of 49, after an asthma attack.
The possibility of having a street named after her was also immortalized by Rita Lee in her book Rita Lee: An Autobiography (2016), published by Globo Livros, in a passage titled "Prophecy." "When I die, I can imagine the words of affection from those who hate me. Some radio stations will play my music without demanding anything in return, colleagues will say I will be missed in the music world, who knows, they might even name a dead-end street after me," the singer wrote.
