The former Judas Priest guitarist compared the two vocalists, Ripper and Rob Halford
In a recent interview, KK Downing compared the two Judas Priest , Tim "Ripper" Owens and Rob Halford . The band's former guitarist stated that Ripper is a better singer than Halford.
“When Ripper joined the band… We have to say this. Physically and technically, Ripper was a better singer than Rob. Tim was always in tune, always in tune. I mean, Rob was good. Rob got better after he started using an earpiece. But Tim was stronger. He still is. The guy is a powerhouse,” said Downing.
But the guitarist explained why Rob Halford was the right vocalist for the band. “The thing is, Rob’s tone. That’s the Priest sound. That’s why Ripper’s time is over. Tim could absolutely destroy the show. We’d still come off stage and people would ask, ‘Is Rob coming back?’ And it was very difficult. And it must be difficult for the guys in Priest right now. Hearing the fans asking, ‘Is KK coming back? Glenn Tipton coming back?’ It must be difficult.”
