The marvelous city proves that heavy metal music is still alive.

Rio de Janeiro is not only the city that hosts many international concerts, and also the birthplace of Rock in Rio, but the "marvelous city," as it is called by many, is the cradle of a host of bands, from Hard Rock to Death Metal, that keep heavy music alive, showing its resistance to the fame of Rio's carnival and funk.

The history of Brazilian Heavy Metal is intertwined with Rio de Janeiro, where classic bands such as Dorsal Atlântica, Metalmorphose, Taurus, and Azul Limão emerged.

Apokalyptic Raids is one of those bands you need to know if you're a fan of Black/Death Metal. Formed in 1998, the band has released 4 albums with strong influences from Hellhammer and Celtic Frost.

Unearthly is one of the biggest Black Metal bands in Latin America. The band is currently on hiatus following the discovery of a heart problem affecting the vocalist.

Doom Metal lives on! If you're a fan of heavy, dragging music, Imago Mortis will surely become your go-to band. The album Vida – The Play Of Change has become a classic, and it's about a person suffering from a terminal illness called…life!

Women also have their place in Rio de Janeiro's metal scene. Proof of this is Angélica Burns, vocalist of Hatefulmurder.

The list is enormous. Rio de Janeiro offers us countless bands, of diverse styles, that are worth listening to: Indiscipline, Reckoning Hour, Gangrena Gasosa, Lacerated and Carbonized, Maieuttica, Tamuya Thrash Tribe, Forceps, Enterro, Quintessente, Tellus Terror, Born To Bleed, Vociferatus, Castifas, Pagan Throne, Brutal Desire, Lost Forever, Statik Majik, and many more.

There are also bands that didn't stand the test of time and ceased operations, such as Venin Noir, Scatha, and Avec Tristesse.

The band Impacto Profano contacted us saying that they haven't broken up, quite the opposite. They have a new lineup and are in the process of composing a new album called Baphomet, which will be released later this year.
