Ringo Starr recalled a very special moment he shared with two other legendary drummers during a party in the 1970s: John Bonham of Led Zeppelin and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones .
During a press conference to promote the EP Change The World , attended by Louder Sound , the ex-Beatle recounted the meeting of icons. They all ended up gathering in Starr's attic, which functioned as both a cinema and a studio, and had a drum kit set up there.
“Charlie came and Bonham too. We had three drummers there, just hanging out. Bonham picked up the drum kit. But because it’s not like on stage, where you fix the instrument so it’s stable, it just lay there. So, while he was playing, the drum would jump away from him,” the musician explained.
The solution Watts and Starr found was to work together to keep the drum kit in place while their colleague played. “You think, ‘Oh man! That would make a great short video, a TikTok, or a photo that would have gone viral!’ But back in the 1970s I threw parties and you’d never find photos of that because I didn’t allow it in my house. But I always think: It would have been a good moment to have [recorded],” he concluded.
