The drummer begins his year as Sir Ringo Starr
Ringo Starr, former drummer of the Beatles, was decorated by British Queen Elizabeth II last Saturday, the 30th, in London, England.
The musician received the title of "Sir" alongside former Bee Gees member Barry Gibb, actor Hugh Laurie, known for his role in the series House, Marc Almond of the New Wave band Soft Cell, and rapper Wiley.
Starr was knighted for the second time, the first being in 1965 with his Beatles colleagues. Now, he is honored for his "contribution to music" and was soon congratulated by his friend Paul McCartney, who was knighted (again) in 1977.
Sir Paul McCartney posted a photo of himself with Starr with the caption: “Congratulations Sir Ringo! Sir Richard Starkey sounds amazing. Best drummer and best friend! Kisses, Paul.”
Regarding his award, the drummer says he is honored to be considered and recognized for his music and charitable work.
In the United Kingdom, the ceremony takes place twice a year and the honors are awarded for merit, contribution, or courage.
