The former Beatle was knighted by Prince William and became Sir Richard Starkey
Ringo Starr, former drummer of the Beatles, received the title of Knight of the British Empire this past Tuesday, the 20th.
The ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace and was presented by the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. The drummer received the honor for his contribution to music and charity throughout his career.
Ringo, now Sir Richard Starkey, was accompanied by his wife Barbara Bach and revealed during the ceremony that he feels honored to be recognized for doing what he loves.
“I don’t know how to use it [the title] properly ,” the drummer said, showing the medal to a BBC reporter after the event. “But I hope you will use it ,” he joked.
The news of the nomination was released at the end of 2017, and Paul McCartney even congratulated his colleague and friend on his social media.
The drummer is the second Beatle to receive the title, the first being Paul McCartney in 1977. Tuesday's ceremony took place 53 years after each member of the band was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
