Rick Rubin , the famous producer who has worked with names like Red Hot Chili Peppers , AC/DC , and Mick Jagger , surprised everyone by revealing that he doesn't have a technical understanding of music.

In a CBS program 60 Minutes shared on social media, the Grammy stated, when asked by journalist Anderson Cooper he barely knows how to play a musical instrument or work at a mixing console.

“No, I don’t have technical skills, and I don’t know anything about music. I know what I like and what I don’t like. And I’m decisive about what I like and what I don’t like… The confidence I have in my taste and my ability to express what I feel has proven useful for artists” (transcription via Rádio Rock ).

The interview is part of the promotion for the book The Creative Act: A Way of Being , released on January 10th. In it, Rick Rubin explains in detail how his creative process works and talks about his friendship with Johnny Cash : “When I built a reputation with young artists, I thought, 'Who is the best adult artist I can think of who hasn't done their best work yet?' And the first one that came to mind was Johnny Cash” (transcription via Tenho Mais Discos Que Amigos! ).

The full interview on 60 Minutes will only air on Sunday the 21st, but the trailer can be seen below:
