Rick Davies, founder, vocalist and keyboardist of Supertramp, dies at age 81.

Davies battled blood cancer for over 10 years.

Rick Davies , one of the founders of the progressive rock band Supertramp , passed away on Saturday, June 6th, at the age of 81.

The band issued a statement saying, “Supertramp is deeply saddened to announce the death of Supertramp founder Rick Davies after a long illness. We had the privilege of knowing Rick and playing with him for over 50 years. Our deepest condolences to Sue Davies.”

The cause of death has not yet been officially announced, although Davies had been battling a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma for more than 10 years.

Davies founded Supertramp in 1969 with guitarist Richard Palmer , drummer Robert Millar , and vocalist and bassist Roger Hodgson .

After their first albums had more modest success, the band broke through with the album Crime of the Century (1974), which, in addition to the title track, features the classic "Dreamer". In 1979, the band conquered the world with the album Breakfast in America , which contains the tracks "Goodbye Stranger", "Gone Hollywood", "Oh Darling", "Just Another Nervous Wreck" and "Casual Conversations", all written by Rick Davies.
