Last Sunday, the 1st, Ric Parnell , the drummer known for playing Mick Shrimpton in the band Spinal Tap in the satirical film This is Spinal Tap (1984), died at the age of 70. The film is a mockumentary that satirizes the behavior and ambitions of hard rock and heavy metal stars of the 80s.
The death of Ric Parnell was confirmed by his friend and fellow musician Deniz Tek , although the cause has not yet been released. In a Facebook post, Tek lamented the loss and paid his last respects to the drummer:
“Ric never prepared for a session, he would come up with the beat and arrangement on the spot. He’d say, ‘How’s the next song going to be?’ I’d play it for him on the guitar, then he’d think for a minute and then he’d say, ‘Okay, I’ve got something.’ Then he’d nail it in one or two takes and it would be perfect,” he wrote.
Rest in peace, Ric!
