Who is the best guitarist in the world? Joe Satriani or Joe Satriani? This discussion is eternal and controversial, so let's leave it for another time.
The bald man's sensitivity and speed make it seem as if he plays the instrument as if he were spreading Aviação butter on a freshly baked roll from the best bakery in São Paulo, and his technique and mastery of the 6 strings are fiercer than all the wildlife in Africa.
Joe Satriani brought his tour for his latest work, his 15th studio album, "Shockwave Supernova," to Brazil, accompanied by an excellent rhythm section featuring Bryan Beller (bass), Marco Minnemann (drums), and Mike Keneally (keyboards/guitar), the latter holding his own against the master on some solos.
The show, scheduled for 9:00 PM, started with a slight delay of a little over 15 minutes and lasted exactly 2 hours. The audience was all seated, which caused me some concern, as the other Satriani concerts I attended were all in a standing-room format. However, after a few minutes I didn't even remember that anymore, and it actually worked well, with everyone respecting their assigned seats and not disturbing the spectators in other rows.
Opening the show with the title track "Shockwave Supernova," it was clear that we were in for an unforgettable night of beautiful instrumental compositions. The venue's acoustics were perfect, and the sound crew made everything even more enjoyable with the best possible settings.
Then came a sequence of three songs that need no introduction: Flying in a Blue Dream , Ice #9 , and Crystal Planet . This sequence was so killer that it seemed to last less than a minute, and if he repeated the same songs again, nobody would complain or even notice.
We continued with other songs until the highly anticipated Summer Song , which is sure to be a crowd favorite, given the ecstasy from the opening chords. A perfectly crafted composition, very cheerful and vibrant, played note by note with the characteristic perfection of the world's best guitarist, wouldn't you agree?

A bureaucratic drum solo that was more useful for grabbing a drink or going to the restroom, followed by Crazy Joey and a keyboard solo, which nobody deserves, before we moved on to Luminous Flesh Giants and then the most beautiful instrumental, which must be worth a fortune in terms of royalties: Always with Me, Always with You , which had its downside, as it was only played halfway, which was an endless disappointment for me.
Joe energized the crowd by playing several iconic riffs from world rock. A medley with chords from AC/DC, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc., and then partially closing with Crowd Chant and Satch Boogie .
The encore was played with the entire crowd on their feet, spilling into the Premium Area with no security between the stage and the crowd. Everyone behaved well until someone had the idea to try and climb onto the platform where the professor was, but was quickly stopped by his friends who realized that would be the end of everyone stuck to the barrier. Big Bad Moon and Surfing with the Alien were the explosive tracks that brilliantly concluded this tangle of notes played house by house, something only the best guitarist in the world could deliver.
