Metallica 's popularity and success are undeniable, and we already knew that, right? But now, numbers prove that James Hetfield and company are the biggest touring band in the world, not just in rock and heavy metal, but across all musical genres.

Pollstar publication , the group has already sold 22.1 million tickets, accumulating $1.4 billion. This number surpasses other rock and metal artists such as AC/DC and Ozzy Osbourne , who have sold 14.3 million and 10 million tickets, respectively. Yes, they have also Guns N' Roses ' $800 million .

The publication also points out that U2 sold more tickets than Metallica, but the Irish band formed in 1976, while the thrashers started in 1981. Even having formed the band later, they managed to sell more tickets in the last five years than major touring artists like U2 themselves, the Rolling Stones , and pop singers Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

Pollstar report reinforces that Metallica never went on a farewell tour or any nostalgic performance that would encourage fans to attend the shows. The group's biggest success was the WorldWired , which promoted the album Hardwired… To Self-Destruct , released in 2016.
