According to a report released this Thursday, the 21st, by Pró-Música , an organization that brings together the largest record labels in the country, revenue from vinyl record sales grew 136% in Brazil in 2023, surpassing, for the first time, the revenue from CDs and DVDs.

Total vinyl sales revenue was R$11 million, while CDs generated R$5 million and DVDs only R$400,000. Even though this is the highest level reached by physical media since 2018, it still represents a very small portion of the recording industry, about 0.6%. Streaming platforms dominate the sector, accounting for 87% of revenue.

From a global perspective, physical media sales also registered growth in 2023, comprising 18% of the sector's revenue, according to a report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry , also released this Thursday. However, in contrast to the national scenario, there was a notable increase in CD sales, especially in Asia, which represents almost half of the market, driven by sales of K-pop groups.

Despite the continued dominance of streaming in the music industry, the report's data reflects a growing global interest in vinyl records, demonstrating an appreciation for the physical experience of music and a renewed recognition of the sound and aesthetic quality associated with this format.
