The Paris 2024 Olympics will end next Sunday, the 11th, at 4 PM Brasília time, with a celebration that will feature Red Hot Chili Peppers.
According to Variety , the ceremony will also feature Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg . The choice of artists was based on the representativeness of music in Los Angeles, California, where the next edition of the games will take place in 2028.
According to the publication, the performances will feature pre-recorded segments and live takes, allowing each artist to present a different part of the city.
In addition to musical performances, actor Tom Cruise will participate in the event by rappelling down from the top of the Stade de France while holding the Olympic flag.
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), there will also be a presentation by French artistic director Thomas Jolly, responsible for the opening ceremony of the Games, who will showcase the history of the event.
How to watch the closing ceremony of the Olympics
Just like the Games themselves, the closing ceremony will be broadcast on TV Globo, on the pay-TV channel Sportv, and on Cazé TV, available on YouTube and Twitch.
Opening of the Olympics
The opening ceremony featured the French band Gojira, marking the first time a metal band has performed at the event. See some photos of the performance here.
After the performance, the group was accused of glorifying Satanism. The accusation came from a group of conservatives and religious people who felt the performance contained too much blood, heavy music, and were shocked by the depiction of Marie Antoinette's decapitated head.
The group performed a version of “Ah! Ça Ira”, a traditional song from the French Revolution, alongside opera singer Marina Viotti (via 89 FM ).
Joe Duplantier , guitarist and vocalist of the band, in an interview with the American magazine Rolling Stone , responded to accusations of Satanism: "There's nothing satanic about it," Duplantier defended himself. "It's French history. It's French charm, you know, decapitated people, red wine and blood everywhere. It's romantic, it's normal."
According to the musician: “France is a country that separated state and religion during the revolution. This is something very important, very dear to the foundation of republican France,” explained the musician, noting that there is even a word to define it:
“We call this ' laïcité ' (in translation: secularism). It's when the state is no longer religious and, therefore, is free in terms of expression and symbolism. It all has to do with history and facts. We don't look too closely at symbolism in terms of religion.”
