When the Unlimited Love Tour's in Brazil was announced, expectations were already high for the Californian quartet's show in São Paulo, which took place this Friday, the 10th, at Morumbi Stadium.
the Red Hot Chili Peppers to skimp on hits – the band's vast repertoire boasts countless successes – but at the São Paulo show, the band took more risks with the setlist, leaving out hits like "Otherside," "Scar Tissue," and "Dani California." It bothers me that the band ignored their 2016 album, *The Getaway* , resulting in the absence of songs like "Dark Necessities," "Goodbye Angels," and "The Longest Wave," all created and released before John Frusciante .
Spanning various phases in the 19 songs they played on Friday night, the Red Hot Chili Peppers Ramones cover , "Havana Affair," as well as several solos where Flea and Frusciante showcased all the energy and synergy that the audience is already accustomed to seeing and hearing.
Speaking of energy, the audience demonstrated all their love and gratitude to the band members with signs displayed on the screens, with messages thanking the band for its importance in their lives. The band reciprocated this love by playing some of their greatest hits as the show began to approach its end.
Flea is always a spectacle in himself; his dancing, irreverence, and impeccable bass playing conveyed his visible excitement at playing here, leaving everything on stage. Unlike the audience, especially those in the premium section, who seemed bothered by people dancing and listening to music… at a rock show.
After an impeccable solo by John Frusciante followed by a cover of Syd Barrett's "Terrapin'", the band played "Don't Forget Me", "Californication", "Black Summer", and "By the Way" in sequence , and then left the stage without saying goodbye to the audience, who didn't stop cheering until they returned, this time to truly close the show with "Under the Bridge" and "Give It Away" .
