Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at the 2022 VMAs and will receive an award

The group will receive an award for its "permanent mark on the music scene."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will receive a tribute at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which takes place this Sunday, August 28th, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, at 5 PM Brasília time.

The band will receive the Global Icon Award , which last year was given to the Foo Fighters. The award celebrates “an artist or band whose career, impact and ongoing influence have maintained a level of global success in music and beyond, leaving a permanent mark on the music scene”.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, who released Unlimited Love in April and are preparing to release their new album Return Of The Dream Canteen in October, will perform at the event alongside Nicki Minaj, Harlow, Lizzo, Måneskin, Anitta, BLACKPINK, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid, and Panic! At The Disco.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' presence at the 2022 VMAs will mark their first appearance at the ceremony since 2000, when they received the Video Vanguard Award and performed "Californication." This year's award, now named the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, will be presented to Nicki Minaj.

New album from Red Hot Chili Peppers

Return Of The Dream Canteen was announced as a surprise in July and is scheduled for release on October 14th. It's the first time the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released two albums in the same year. In April, the band released Unlimited Love , their first album since John Frusciante 's return .

The sequel to Unlimited Love , it seems, was a result of the time Anthony Kiedis spent in the studio with Flea and Chad Smith .

Return Of The Dream Canteen , which is already available for pre-order , will be a double album with 17 tracks produced by Rick Rubin .
