The Red Hot Chili Peppers are working on a new studio album with guitarist John Frusciante , according to Chad Smith . The drummer revealed the news during an interview with Rolling Stone about his exhibition , The Art of Chad Smith.
“I received specific instructions for this interview: 'don't talk about the band'. But yes, John is back in the band and everyone knows it. We're excited. The festivals are the only shows scheduled. For now, we're just focusing on new songs and writing a new album. We're all eager to make new music.”
John Frusciante returned to RHCP in December 2019 after leaving the band in 2010. At the time, the group hired guitarist Josh Klinghoffer to replace him, with whom he recorded the albums I'm with You (2011) and The Getaway (2016). Now, Josh is leaving the band and John is returning.
